Victim Advocacy

The victim’s advocacy is led by victim advocates. They are trained professionals who provide support and legal assistance to domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. These include gathering information and resources, filling out legal paperwork, as well as referring to other social service agencies that can help the victim.

Most victim advocates provide access to support groups services and referral to 24/7 crisis hotlines and in-person counseling. They can be referred to as “victim service provider,” “victim or witness coordinators,” and “victim or witness specialists.”

24/7 Crisis Line

Crisis call centers play an important role since they’re the first point of contact for victims who seek help and support. Because domestic violence and sexual assault can affect anyone at any time, 24/7 crisis hotlines were established.

Our staff and volunteers help abused individuals recover, heal, and maximize their self-sufficiency. Rest assured that our crisis hotline will provide the safe and nonjudgmental support you can rely on.

Court Advocacy

This service is dedicated to giving support to abuse victims as they go through the legal system. Our staff and trained volunteers will give information about the legal process and judicial system. You can expect them to be present in the courtrooms to advocate your case.

Our advocates can also handle cases involving rape and sexual assault. They will give you assistance with your paperwork for protective orders and criminal charges. Our advocates will provide referrals to different law enforcement agencies, districts attorneys, victim services, magistrates, or clerk offices that can help with your case.

Please note that our advocates cannot provide legal advice or representation. However, they can connect you with legal services.

Protective Order and Police Report

If you’re a domestic violence and/or sexual assault victim, you have the right to request a restraining order or a protective order against the person who has hurt or threatened you.

NOTE FOR HOKE COUNTY RESIDENTS: The emergency protection order is available through the Magistrate’s office every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Thursdays have no specific time given due to small claims court.

Magistrates are on call every Saturday. Additionally, all temporary orders are valid up to 10 court days. Police reports can also be made at the sheriff’s department if the incident occurred in the county. However, if the incident occurred within the city limits, the report must be made with the city police department.

We can assist with transportation services/options. This will be helpful when you need to go somewhere safe or to access other necessary services.

Confidentiality Address Program​

This program allows you to receive mail using a confidential address while you keep your actual address undisclosed. The Secretary of State’s address or your trusted agency address will legally substitute and use their location as your physical address on public records. Our advocates are also trained and certified to complete the necessary documents you needed.

Emergency Legal Aid Referral

Legal aid attorneys will provide you information and sound advice regarding your domestic violence or sexual assault case. If you need a lawyer, we can refer your case to the North Carolina Legal Aid Representative in Pembroke North Carolina.

Please note pro bono attorneys can only handle noncriminal cases that include domestic violence protective orders.
